The Race
The Largest 5K Race in South Carolina and the 29th Largest Race in the Country!
The Turkey Day Run & Gobble Wobble has become a Thanksgiving Day tradition for Charleston natives and visitors alike. The 29th largest 5K in the United States begins at 9 A.M. in Marion Square in historic downtown Charleston and weaves a scenic course down Meeting Street, around the Historic Battery, up King Street returning to Marion Square. Live music, free food and beverages (including a beer garden for those of age), Children’s Fun Run and an appearance by Tom the Turkey highlight a morning for fun and fitness.
Presented by the Knights of Columbus, Rev. P.N. Lynch Council #704, the race raises money for local charities. Past recipients of Turkey Day Run funds have included MUSC Children’s Hospital, Hospice of Charleston Foundation, Boy Scouts of America (Lowcountry chapter) and the Alzheimer’s Association. The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal organization that focuses on service in the community.
The race had a record 5,888 registrants in 2010, with 5,260 crossing the finish line. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers as well as first-place finishers in the Master and Grand Master categories.
